“Sometimes you will never know the value of something, until it becomes a memory.” - Dr. Seuss
It's been a year and a half since I moved to South America. I remember the first time I ever traveled this way. I was so desperate to cram every photo and video in possible so that I could remember everything.
Later on, I had come across Cesar Kuriyama's Ted Talk in which he had struggled with the same issues as I had previously with memories and how to capture them without allowing it to completely takeover your natural experiences.
"Now, one of the things that I have issues with is that, as the days and weeks and months go by, time just seems to start blurring and blending into each other and, you know, I hated that, and visualization is the way to trigger memory. You know, this project for me is a way for me to bridge that gap and remember everything that I've done." -- Cesar Kuriyama
He ended up creating an app called 1 Second Every Day where you capture just one second out of each of your days and mash it into a video over time.
By taking just a 1- second video, the visuals yield vivid memories not seen through your cellphone, but through you. This way I can capture just a moment of some place, someone, or something, and then put the phone away and experience it first-hand.
My year an a half here in South America and abroad has now added up to almost 11 minutes. If I record through my 30's I'll have a one hour video and if I reach 80, I'll have a 5 hour video. Schedule
